48% of U.S. Adults Have
Heart Disease A new report from the American Heart Association has revealed that nearly half of Americans have some form of
heart disease. This includes conditions such as heart attack, stroke, angina, abnormal heart rhythms or narrowing of the arteries. The increase may be due to stricter guidelines defining high blood pressure, enforced in 2017. Hypertension was previously defined as readings of 140/90mm Hg. Now it is 130/80mm Hg or higher. Heart disease remains the No. 1 killer of Americans. Risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure, smoking and lack of exercise may contribute to the development of
heart conditions.
